Academic Appeals Policy - Students

Section 1 - Preamble

(1) The Academic Board Appeals Committee is an appeals committee for students. On behalf of the Academic Board, it shall hear, examine and determine student appeals in relation to exclusion on academic grounds, student assessment or higher degree progression. From time to time, it may also be requested to hear an appeal on any other relevant matter referred to it by the Chair of the Academic Board. The Academic Board Appeals Committee is a University body that assists in assuring quality in academic outcomes for students by considering potential irregularities in assessment processes.

(2) The Academic Board Appeals Committee Procedures are established to ensure fair and equitable outcomes for all student appeals received and dealt with under the relevant University Rules.

Section 2 - Matter that May be Considered by the Academic Board Appeals Committee

(3) Students may submit appeals under the University's Rules Relating to Awards as follows:

Coursework Awards

  1. Rule 2, Section 10 - Exclusion
  2. Rule 3, Section 16 - Appeal Against a Final Grade

Honours Awards

  1. Rule 5, Section 6 Class of Honours
  2. Rule 5, Section 7, Discontinuation of Enrolment
  3. Rule 5, Section 8, Readmission

Masters by Thesis Award

  1. Rule 7.13.4 Appeal Against Assessment of Completion of Confirmation Period
  2. Rule 7.13.5 Appeal Against Review of Progress Reports
  3. Rule 7.13.6 Appeal Against Decision not to Submit Thesis
  4. Rule 7.13.7 Appeal Against Additional Examination Requirements and Failure of Admission to the Degree
  5. Rule 7.13.8 Appeal Against Termination of Enrolment due to Special Circumstances or to Exceeding Maximum Tenure
  6. Rule 7.13.9 Appeal Against a Decision to Refuse Readmission After Termination
  7. Rule 7.22.2 Appeal Against Review of Progress Reports (Masters by Thesis Qualifier)

Section 3 - Procedures

(4) Appeals must be lodged on the Appeals Form.
