Summary of Changes from Previous Version

1. Name change - from Student Misconduct Rules to Student Academic and Non- Academic Misconduct Rules.

2. Restructure - separating out academic from non-academic misconduct and inclusion of Sections that define the procedures and penalties relevant to the Decision-Maker.

3. Academic Integrity Officers (AIO) (for coursework) and Dean of Graduate Studies (for Research Higher Degrees) determine all academic misconduct (unless the allegation involves both academic and non- academic misconduct - which is referred to the Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor (SDVC)). Penalties available to AIOs have increased - highest is now a fail for a unit of study.

4. The SDVC determines all non-academic misconduct (and any allegation involving both academic and non-academic misconduct). Penalties available to SDVC are increased - highest is permanent expulsion.

5. The Student Misconduct Committee (now Student Misconduct Appeals Committee) becomes an appeals committee only - dealing with appeals against SDVC determinations (no longer any need for misconduct appeals to go to Council Appeals Committee).

6. Compliance with Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (e.g. students have 20 working days to appeal).

7. Inclusion of reference to student advocacy.
