Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The Academic Promotion cycle is a milestone event every year. It recognises and rewards talent, growth and contribution as a fundamental part of who SCU is and what we need to do together as a University community.

At the end of 2020 the Academic Promotions Committee took pause for thought about the then existing academic promotions policy framework and looked to sharpen the framework in three areas:

1) Achievement Relative to Opportunity - More evident in 2020 than ever before were circumstances where there may have been interruptions to the progress that staff were experiencing in the development of their career and their track record. The changes in the policy allow staff to more sharply reflect on interruptions to their career and their achievements relative to opportunity, and to give applicants the chance to share this so the Academic Promotion Committee can understand their accomplishments in the most positive light.

2) Performance Excellence and Impact - As we move to the future the University is defining, expecting and achieving excellence and impact in everything we do. Applicants are asked to reflect on the way that they define excellence and impact, and align their activities to clearly generate impact and excellence in the various dimensions of their work that is demonstrable in their promotion application.

3) Professional Standards and Conduct " The new Professional Standards and Conduct criteria asks applicants to be more declarative about how they contribute to the University and the way they have thoughtfully prosecuted the development of their career to align to SCU’s strategy and goals. This addition provides an opportunity to celebrate and recognise outstanding corporate citizenship formally through the Academic Promotions process.
